adopt a dog?
You save a life. When you adopt, you are providing a forever home for a dog in need. And when your pet goes home with you, another space is opened up for an animal in need of love, care, and a second chance. Adopters are heroes.

I am interested in adopting from Save My Tail, what do I do?
Once you have expressed interest in adding a new addition to your family, please complete an adoption application form and be sure answer all questions. There is a screening process so we will be in touch with you to ensure that these dogs are the right match for you.
Can I meet the dog?
Once your application is approved, we will arrange an initial meet with the dog. It is recommended you meet the dog a few times to ensure they will be the perfect fit for for family. It is also advised that you bring all family members, as well as your current pets to meet the dog. This is usually done best in a neutral location, such as a park etc.
I′ve met the dog and he/she is a perfect fit for my family. What happens next?
If your meet goes well, and you have found your perfect forever pup, we will then arrange a home visit to be completed by one of our members. Home visits are an important part of the adoption process to ensure the dog is going to a safe and loving environment.
I′ve had someone conduct a home visit. When do I get to adopt my new furry family member?
The final step of the adoption process involves the agreement and completion of our adoption contract, and receipt of adoption fees. Dogs or pups who have an accepted application will be pending adoption.
It may seem like a long process and a lot of hoops but we want to make sure each dog has the right home.
What is included
with the adoption fees?
All our adoptable dogs will be up to date on vaccinations, de-wormed and sterilized. On occasion the dogs will be microchipped if they come from the shelter or old owner that way – we do not currently include microchipping as our package.
If adopting a puppy and they are not old enough to be sterilized before adoption, an appointment will be made with our rescue veterinarian and paid for by Save My Tail and this is included in the adoption fee. Some dogs may be unsterilized when brought into the rescue, and if adopted before the appointment is made for fixing, an appointment will be booked by Save My Tail and will be done as soon as possible.
Please be advised that adoption fees may be reduced on senior dogs, or dogs requiring long term veterinary treatment for a condition or illness. Sometimes we have generous sponsors who contribute towards a dogs adoption fee to help them be adopted quicker by a loving home.
